Youth in Action: End of summer @ Mimico Library

The last few weeks of Youth in Action at the Mimico Library have been focused around getting the girls excited about the new school year. This included lots of stress-relieving active games as well as activities to get their creative minds ticking again after the long summer break.

Above and Below are our two favourite activities: badminton and balloon volleyball!

Below: One week, we had a competition on which group could build the tallest structure out of funny materials

 Below: Another week we tried to build models and statues out of marshmallows and spaghetti. Who knew you could be so creative with such strange building materials!

Youth in Action volunteers for BikeHost

The Youth in Action Team went to Birchmount Bluffs to volunteer at a BikeHost Family Event. The evening was full of laughter and activities as the kids waited to recieve their free bike from this amazing program from CultureLink's Sustainable Communities branch. The Youth in Action Team transformed themselves into clowns, badminton coaches, frisbee players and land-swimming competitors to entertain the rambunctious and adorable group of children. 

Layal was a crowd favourite as she decorated the balloons with requests from her audience (mostly princesses and butterflies).

We set up a badminton area for the older kids to play, but it quickly turned into a badminton lesson for the younger ones too!

Youth in Action Volunteers at the BikeHost Picnic

On Sunday July 23rd, the Youth in Action Team came out to help with the BikeHost picnic. The event was a great success and we were able to help with the set-up and clean-up of the event. In return, we got to enjoy the amazing vibes of the crowd and the delicious barbecue hotdogs! The youth also helped to set up some entertaining activities (Badminton, Capture the Flag and Boomerang) for the picnic participants and we played soccer and Frisbee with some of the young children. 

The picnic participants left on a beautiful bike tour with a BikeHost guide and the Youth in Action Team had some down time to go have fun playing around in the park...
