Unsettled - a play about shifting cultural identity

Save the date!  On August 11th CultureLink's Youth Theatre Group will be performing their original play, Unsettled, at CultureLink.  

Inspired by their own stories and written by the youth in the program, this play will explore shifting cultural identity. Curtains open at 1 p.m.! 

Youth Theatre Group @ High Park

Our Theatre Youth Group spent the morning at High Park going over our scenes.  We are excited to share that our play, titled Unsettled, will be performed on August 11th at 1 pm at CultureLink! Hope to see you there!

Youth Theatre Group - Personal Presentations

It's been another busy week for the Youth Theatre Group.  With your performance only two and a half weeks away, we have been working hard putting our scenes together.

This past week,we started working on our personal presentations about things that we are passionate about and/or care about. We took past ideas and scenes and started rebuilding them into new scenes inspired by our personal presentations.

It has been a lot of fun learning and sharing our passions with each other!

Begonia, one of our Youth Theatre Performers, shared her passion for history by taking us for a walk around CultureLink talking about historical landmarks in the neighbourhood.

We also spent a lot of time practicing our new scenes.  Here we are working on one of our newest airport scenes:

Youth Theater Group - Fresh Perspectives

So far this week, the Youth Theatre Group looked back on the past week's creations through a new lens. We took past ideas that stood out to us and redeveloped them into fresh scenes featuring character developments and conflicts.

On Tuesday, we were honoured to have Toronto artist Paula Wing join us to lead a workshop. We learned about prop use, blackout poetry, and risk-taking. It was an exciting experience and we are looking forward to Paula Wing's return!

Youth Theatre Group - Mixed Identities

This was an exciting week for the Youth Theatre Group. The theme for this week was mixed identities. The participants spent the week on character creation, voice lessons, and directed writing.
Throughout the week, they engaged in improv activities to improve group focus and teamwork.

The Theatre Peer Leaders also facilitated an employment and art workshop with the Youth in Arts program for newcomer youth. It was quite an eventful week!
