Youth Holiday Party

The Youth Holiday Party took place on December 15th at CultureLink. All youth participants from the various NYSS programs were invited to celebrate the end of a successful year of programming.
33 youth braved the cold and stormy conditions to take part in the celebration.
The evening included delicious food, games, prizes and goody bags for all attendees.
A game of Family Feud led by staff created an atmosphere of team work and also a lot of laughter.

Youth Recreation Club Girls - Fitness with Celia

The girls with YRC got a chance to complete fitness drills in teams with certified instructor Celia. The workshop aimed at challenging the girls physically and promoting team work.

Youth Recreation Club Girls - Toronto Christmas Market

We took a tour of the beautiful and historic Christmas Market in Distillery District. Walking tours are a great way to get active as well as exploring different neighbourhoods in Toronto.

Youth Recreation Club Girls - Downtown Outing

We started our day with a walking tour of the St. Lawrence Market. Walking is a great form of exercise and when you're having this much fun you hardly notice it.

We had a discussion on self appreciation and body image, which led to the girls sharing what helps them feel confident. The girls then gave each other makeovers with the help of the staff at Sephora.

YRC at the MEC Think Outside Summit 2016

On Sep. 24, YRC had the opportunity to present a workshop for youth across Toronto at @mec's Think Outside Summit 2016.

 We presented on Breaking Down Barriers to Inclusion for Newcomer/Racialized Youth. 

Janiela a youth participant with the program did a very engaging and thought provoking game.

The youth with the NOW Program took on the YRC's Fitness Challenge and came out victorious!

Potluck Picnic at Centre Island

To celebrate the start of the summer break, the youth of CultureLink's programs met up for a potluck picnic to Centre Island on Jun 30.

We met up at the subway station and headed for the ferry terminal. There was a huge line-up for tickets at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal Park, but we didn't waste any time at all. We got to know the youth from the other CultureLink programs through some interactive ice breaker games.



We were all hungry once we got to the island. Because it is a potluck picnic, everyone brought a little something to share with everyone else. Erica's home-made lasagna and brownies were worth special mention. They got snapped up within seconds, and they were delicious!

The weather was beautiful, and the lunch was delicious. We chilled out afterwards, and had the opportunity to get to know one another better.

After lunch, we played some games and then went to the beach for some water and sun.
