May with Global Roots

Global Roots Program is well underway as we begin planting in our newly renovated gardens! It is a very exciting time as we prepare to collect our first harvest and fill the gardens with spring time plants like tomato, kale, celery and parsley. 

On our first day of programming, the youth planted sunflower seeds, by the next week the sunflower seeds had sprouted and the youth prepared the beautiful snack below for the seniors.

Looking forward to more gardening and filling this amazing space with some fresh, organic, edible plants! 

Global Roots Year-End Harvest Party

The end of October marks the end of the amazing Global Roots program. This is an intergenerational program that is put on by The Stop Community Food Centre and the participants from three amazing CultureLink programs: Sankofa Youth, Youth in Action and the Seniors Program. This week we celebrated an amazing year of fun and hard work with our Harvest Party. We enjoyed fantastic pot-luck food, games (apple-bobbing and a pinata) , music and the company of all of our wonderful participants. 

Thank you so much to our participants, our volunteers and all the staff involved in making this year with Global Roots such a success. At events like this we truly see the community that is built during these programs and we are looking forward to next year when we will see everyone again!

Global Roots Potluck, with Sankofa and Youth in Action

 This week at Global Roots, the youth (Sankofa and Youth in Action) and the seniors shared an amazing potluck dinner together. The seniors brought home-cooked meals in and the youth made a healthy salad out of the harvest from our garden. Needless to say, everything was DELICIOUS and we all left feeling happy and full. It was beautiful to share this meal together and enjoy the company of different generations.
