On May 9, 2013, Mr Jai Sahak came to talk to us about finding summer jobs. He is a representative from the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI)’s NewYouth.ca website.
The website is pretty useful for youths who are going to look for a job during summer holidays, or at any time. This website also has information about work, law, health, daily life, immigration, as well as education.
On the home page of this website there is also a link to a discussion forum which is an online space for users to ask questions and discuss issues that youth may face as newcomers to Ontario. You may also browse through questions that other people have already asked and get the information from the forum page. We may also register or sign up to get our own account so that we can participate in the forum discussions as well. There is also a video that shows other youth’s newcomer experience.
Mr Jai Sahak opened several links for us, and showed us the process of how students who are in high school, like us, may make use of the website to help us find summer jobs. He also talked about how important it is to get a summer job, because we will get to learn more, make more friends, and gain more experiences. He also told us that we can access links to other useful services from this website as well. What a good website!
At the end of the session, there was a lucky raffle, and I was really glad that I received the prize. It was a cash voucher of $50 which I can use to go climbing at Boulderz Climbing Centre! I really appreciate it! Thanks Mr Jai, for picking me, and thanks Wintegration, for the opportunity!
I believe that everyone can benefit from using this website. NewYouth.ca is really helpful!
