Let In The Light

As one of the eight participants of Let in the Light - A Youth Photovoice Project by Access Alliance, I went to our first screening event this Friday at CultureLink, as part of the Sankofa Youth Program.

It was the first time for me to watch the videos from other participants and learn about their stories. We shared our experiences and thoughts of being newcomers as well as LGBTQ youths with all the audience.

Sharing our thoughts and experiences with one another.

I was really happy that we had a brief discussion with guests from other newcomer and LGBTQ youth supportive programs. We discussed our current situation of being newcomers as well as LGBTQ youth from both personal and sociological perspectives. It was of great importance for people like me to speak out and share our thoughts with other people within the community.

Thank you CultureLink for giving me this great opportunity! I really enjoyed this wonderful screening event!

Let In The Light – A Youth Photovoice Project by Access Alliance engages LGBTQ+ newcomer youth to create awareness about their personal experiences. Through the program, the youth participants are trained in photography to capture how they are affected by exclusion. Through short videos of their photo collage, they will then showcase their stories through community events, online galleries, art exhibitions, a printed booklet targeting schools and community organizations. Contact: Lzuniga(at)accessalliance.ca for screening information.
